Whilst scrolling down my instagram feed a couple of days ago, a post vaught my attention.. A popular YouTuber had posted a full-length picture of herself, and to her astonishment (and mine, along with many others) a plastic surgery clinic in Turkey sent her a message suggesting that she needed to have a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.
I was so surprised to see this and I can only assume this isn’t necessarily done all the time, however from my own personal experience, I know how aggressive these plastic surgery clinics can be as I had been looking into getting surgery a couple of years ago but decided to put it off.
I wanna nake it clear that i’m not necessarily against plastic surgery but i definitrly don’t agree with people being coerced or pressured into it. To each their own, I know people who have had surgery and I potentially might myself one day. But it doesn’t need to be rammed down our throats like this.
Instagram and other social media platforms have nade it okay for women to post stuff flaunting their artificially enhanced bodies, whilst claiming to have worked for it in the gym or advocating for the surgeons and their work. Everywhere you look, there’s a woman glorifying plasticity, in some way or another. Even women who’ve not had plastic surgery are equally guilty of this glorification of plasticity or making it okay to have no substance. This statement may confuse you and not everyone will agree and that’s fine but just hear me out for a second.
We’ve all scrolled down a feed on a social media platform and at some point or another seen a girl/woman who’s posted a video, and in this video she is literally doing nothing. Just staring into the camera, possibly playing with her hair or trying to look seductive, she might even flip her phone to show her body, but not a singles word is said.
Does my previous statement make sense now?
I don’t know who started this trend, or whi co-signed it but it needs to f’ing stop! I’m tired of seeing this; women who feel like they have nothing to offer beyond their beauty, whether it be their face or their body. It’s narcissistic, unnecessary and to an extent it highlights the fact that that she has some level of insecurity, not in the way we would traditionally think of the word but more so that she thinks that all she had to offer her is physique or aesthetic.
A lot of people will probably read this and say that I’m “hating” but i’m not the first person to say thus and I probably won’t be the last.
I wanna see posts of women successfully launching a business, graduating university, making money moves and generally doing well in life. Not just showing off her beauty, and there’s nothing wrong with being beautiful but what happens when that beauty fades or when someone tries to dig bebeath the surface and realises that the surface is all there is?
Back to the plastiv surgery, I also disagree with it being promoted in such a cavalier manner – this is major surgery we are talking about here, you could die in the operating theatre, you could have some major comolications afterwards, and even if the surgery itself goes smoothly, you then have to worry about potentially bad scarring. You can’t eat or drink for a certain amount of time before or after tbe surgery, so no matter how hungry or thirsty you are, you just have to wait. It’s also not this quick procedure like Dr. Miami makes it seem, you’re under anasthetic for hours.
I’m not trying to put anyone off, i’m just saying things I didn’t know or hadn’t taken into account before but through watching YouTube videos I have come to learn.
Also, some of these girls who get surgery come out looking worse. Just saying.
I say all this to say, if you wanna have surgery, that’s fine but just make sure you do your research – into the procedure, the doctor, the clinic etc., don’t do it “just because,” be mentally prepared for it, but most importantly, don’t forget to work on your non-physical substance, too.
